The article analyses the situation with the municipal solid waste operation in Moscow and determines the practicability of using railway transport for their export to distant landfills. The criteria optimisation problem of the location of railway stations with the piggyback terminal for loading and unloading waste have been formed, the objective function of this problem has been formulated, and its solution has been given.

The author analyses the key problems of water supply, traditional ways to solve them and the expediency of developing a new approach to eliminating negative factors.

The article describes the universal stand for studying soil cutting with models of excavating machine working tools (patent for invention No. 2689958). The stand makes it possible to conduct soil cutting studies in three media: in a normal medium (at atmospheric pressure), an aqueous medium (at hydrostatic pressure) and in a rarefied space (vacuum). At the same time, it is possible to conduct studies with translational cutting elements (models of dumps, cable-laying cutting knifes, etc.) and rotary working elements (excavator bucket, grab).

The optimisation model type and the solution form are justified taking into account the specifics of power consumption in railway transport. The initially formulated problem of nonlinear programming is reduced to linear. The result of its solution is obtained in the form of a load profile of the selected control object for working and non-working time intervals.

When finding the remaining service life of the product the main task, in addition to the failure function definition, is to determine the initial data for calculation. So, it is not always possible to find the necessary parameters due to the multifactorial destruction of the product and the lack of necessary research in this field. The paper considers an alternative method of input data definition for elements with a reliability model using Rayleigh distribution.

The authors consider the interaction of the wheel and rail as a solution to the problem of spherical wheel impact to the rail mainly in the joint zone represented by an orthotropic plate having curvilinear anisotropy, which is affected by a longitudinal force and impact effects in two moments. The diagrams of impact interaction of wheel and rail in the form of Uflyand-Mindlin plate and solution of system of differential equations are given.

The article considers the thermodynamic method of constructing thermal production circuits. This method is especially relevant for heat-consuming industries, in which open steam is used as heat carriers. The feasibility of involving low-potential heat sources in the implementation of technological processes is shown.

The article indicates the need for a specialised marshalling station in the Central Transport Hub for the formation of local freight trains. To determine the potentially advantageous location of such a station in the junction, the authors propose to use the Dijkstra's algorithm.

The determination of the longitudinal force acting on the boiler shell of the tank car in a collision with an obstacle is investigated. The decision takes into account the law of conservation of energy and the potential energy associated with deformation of the shell, the theory of shells being applied. The article presents the graphs of force change as a function of collision velocity. The authors investigated the change of the force before and after the moment of saturation of the energy intensity of the device, taking into account the energy of the shell deformation.

The purpose of the study presented in the article is to consider methods for determining the location of a transport and logistics facility in a certain region. The analysis allows stating that to solve this problem, it is necessary to check individual options for a number of factors and take into account the individual characteristics of the region.

The article analyses some of the parameters describing the thermal state of the turnouts, using the example of solving two problems with an applied orientation: defrosting a turnout covered with snow and maintaining a warm state in conditions of intense snowfall. As a result of the series of calculations, influencing parameters of the tasks were established, the conservative assessment methods were proposed, practical techniques for simplifying the computational part of the tasks were developed, methods for calculating each of the tasks were proposed, which can be further supplemented during the development of the issue.

The authors propose a new approach for feeding trains driven by an electric locomotive to loading and unloading tracks by cars forward without switching to shunting order of movement. To reduce the duration of train processing, it is recommended to use a remote the video control device installed on the tail car of the train.

The article deals with the current issues of operation of long-distance passenger transportation by rail. The need to use the intelligent control systems is shown not only when organising the passenger train operation, but also when preparing trains for a route. One of the optimisation tasks that need to be solved within the framework of the operation of such an intelligent control system has been set.

Workers of locomotive crews operating diesel locomotives are exposed to the chemical air pollution of the working area. Some of the pollutants are carcinogenic. When operating on the long-term diesel locomotives, the carcinogenic risk is 5.22·10-3. It is expected that the formation of 52 additional cases of carcinogenic pathology per 10,000 workers will be annually.

The article is devoted to the issue of wastewater treatment of transport enterprises from organic selenium compounds. The adsorption of DAFS-25 from ethyl alcohol on NaX zeolite, MSC silica gel and Ca (CH3COO) 2 adsorbent was investigated. It has been established that previously methods of treating wastewater from selenium-containing compounds were not used in the transport industry. The use of the adsorption method described above seems to be an effective solution to this problem.

The paper considers the modern methods of coal dust combating; the relevance of this issue is proved. The author hives the arguments are made that the modern methods of dust control are ineffective and a new method of dust suppression is needed, which can comprehensively solve this problem. To solve the issue of dust suppression, it is proposed to use a biological preparation.
